Everyone is waiting for when the central government will announce the terms of reference for the 8th Pay Commission. Nearly 10 months have passed, but there was no update on who would be the chairperson, and no updates on the terms of reference.

There were even protests held, but finally, on October 28, the government announced the terms of reference and who the members of the 8th Pay Commission would be.

First of all, let me explain what the 8th Pay Commission is.

In short, the 8th Pay Commission is a body that is set up every ten years to review the salaries, pensions, and other benefits for government employees. That’s why the Pay Commission is set up. The members of the Pay Commission decide, after all the research and analysis, what the salary structure for government employees will be.

So, just like all previous Pay Commissions, this time too, the 8th Pay Commission will have three main members. Their task will be to handle everything related to the 8th Pay Commission. But who are the key members of the 8th Pay Commission, and what does it mean for you? Let’s dive into it!

Who Are the Key Members of the 8th Pay Commission?

The 8th Central Pay Commission is a temporary body, as Ashnivi Vaishnav has said, and it includes just three key members: the Chairperson, a part-time member, and the Member-Secretary. Let’s look at who these individuals are and why they matter.

Who is the Chairperson for the 8th Pay Commission?

The Government of India has named Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as the head of the 8th Pay Commission. She used to be a judge on the Supreme Court and has had a long and successful career in law, including as a judge on the Bombay High Court.

She served the public in many ways after she retired in 2014, such as by leading the Delimitation Commission of India. So, the 8th Pay Commission now has Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as its Chairperson.

Who is the Part-Time Member for the 8th Pay Commission?

Pulak Ghosh, a very well-known economist and now a professor at IIM Bangalore, has been chosen to be the part-time member of the 8th Pay Commission by Government of India.

Ghosh’s experience in economics and data science makes him a good choice to look at the 8th Pay Commission’s work from a financial point of view as many expert are believing.

As a part-time member, he will be in charge of giving information about the economy, inflation, and how changes to the pay structure for Central Government government workers will affect the budget.

Who is the Member-Secretary for the 8th Pay Commission?

Pankaj Jain, the Member-Secretary, is the third member of the 8th Pay Commission. He is now the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Pankaj Jain knows a lot about public service, public policy, and administration, which will definitely help the 8th Pay Commission do its job.

In conclusion, the 8th Pay Commission is a very important body, that will decide the financial future of over 1 crore central government employees and pensioners.

With Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai leading the commission and is Chairperson of 8th CPC and Economic experts like Pulak Ghosh and Pankaj Jain on board, there’s so much hope that the recommendations will be fair, balanced for Central Government Emloyees and in line with the nation’s economic goals.

Now, let’s see when they submit their report on the 8th Pay Commission to the government and when the government will implement the 8th CPC.
