Overview

Abhishek Pathak’s Drishyam 2 is the Hindi follow-up to the 2015 blockbuster Drishyam, which was based on the Mohanlal-starring Malayalam original.

Ishita Dutta plays Anju, Akshaye Khanna plays ACP Tarun Ahlawat, Shriya Saran plays Nandini Salgaonkar, Tabu plays IG Meera Deshmukh, and Ajay Devgn plays Vijay Salgaonkar in this 2022 movie.

Seven years have passed since the events of the first movie when the story takes place. It had a 163-minute runtime and made over ₹350 crore globally.

The main focus of the film is Vijay’s ongoing efforts to shield his family from the sinister truth of their previous transgression. Once more, he stays ahead of the police investigation by using his love of movies and astute observation.

A Brief Summary of Drishyam (2015)

In the first part, Vijay, a simple cable operator in Goa, hid the fact that he had accidentally killed Sameer “Sam” Deshmukh, the son of police officer Meera Deshmukh. Sam had filmed Vijay’s daughter Anju in a private moment and then tried to blackmail her. Anju hit Sam in self-defense during a heated argument, which caused him to die.

Vijay carefully got rid of the body and made up fake alibis based on movies to keep his family safe. His smart planning made the investigation fail. The last twist made it even scarier: Vijay had buried Sam’s body under the foundation of the new police station.

Act 1: Seven Years Later – A Peace That Could Break

The movie starts with a flashback to the night of the cover-up, when a man named David Braganza sees Vijay burying a body but doesn’t say anything for years.

Life seems normal for the Salgaonkars by 2021. Vijay runs a movie theater now and wants to make movies. Nandini runs a catering business, but Anju is still having panic attacks because of what happened. The family tries to live normally, but they are always afraid that their secret will come out.

A man hiding a crime is the main character in a novel and later a movie based on Vijay’s own hidden truth. He can’t move on even though his wife tells him to.

Things go wrong again when Meera comes back to town. While the police station is being renovated, they find human remains, and DNA testing shows that it is Sam’s body. The case is reopened, and ACP Tarun Ahlawat, a smart and calm officer, is in charge. From here, the tension slowly rises as Vijay realizes that the past is catching up with him.

Act 2: The Noose Gets Tighter

Vijay carefully makes a new plan as the police look into things more. He sends his daughters away to keep them safe and acts like he’s working with the police. Nandini breaks down during the interrogation, just like she did in the first movie.

David, the man who once saw Vijay bury the body, is now a key witness. But Vijay had already thought about this. Years ago, he sent David a letter that made him doubt what he was doing.

Vijay admits to the murder in front of everyone when it seems like there is no way out. The news spreads like wildfire, but it soon comes out that his confession is exactly the same as what he wrote in his own book. This turn of events weakens the police case.

Murad, the producer who put out Vijay’s story years ago, says that the idea was around before Sam’s murder, which makes things even more confusing for the court.

Part 3: The Truth Behind the Lies

The last scenes in the courtroom are very tense. Vijay’s lawyer points out all the flaws in the case. When it comes out that David was drunk that night, his testimony falls apart. The police theory doesn’t fit with the skeleton’s timeline.

The big twist is that the body that was found wasn’t Sam’s; it was another man’s. Vijay had switched the skeletons while they were being built, so Sam’s body would never be found. He later threw Sam’s ashes into the Arabian Sea.

David admits he lied to get money, and Vijay shows that the whole case was based on a story he made up. The court doesn’t have any solid proof, so Vijay is free again.

Finally, Meera faces Vijay one last time and tells him she won’t stop. Vijay answers calmly, giving the impression that this isn’t the end. The end of the movie leaves the door open for Drishyam 3, hinting at a new mystery.

Themes and acting

Drishyam 2 isn’t just about crime; it’s also about guilt, morality, and the burden of family loyalty. Vijay’s actions make us question whether lying and manipulation are okay if they protect people we care about.

Ajay Devgn gives a powerful and quiet performance that shows both fear and control. Tabu is a powerful mother looking for justice, and Akshaye Khanna’s calm but sharp presence adds depth.

The movie’s visuals and background music do a great job of capturing Goa’s tense and moody mood.

The first half can be slow at times, but the second half’s twists and courtroom drama make it worth the wait.

What People Are Saying and What’s Going On

Drishyam 2 quickly became one of the most talked-about thrillers on social media after it came out. Fans liked the story and the surprise ending. A lot of people said it was just as good as the Malayalam version.

People are still talking about Drishyam 3 hints online, even though it has already been confirmed that the movie is being made. People love the idea of a regular person fighting the system and how smart Vijay is.

Last Thoughts

Drishyam 2 is unique because it keeps the audience guessing until the end. It’s not just about hiding a body; it’s about how far a father will go to keep his family safe.

The story is over, but the fear and suspense stay.
