Maruti Suzuki has stepped firmly into the electric vehicle market with the launch of its first electric SUV, the E Vitara. This marks a key milestone in the company’s move towards clean and sustainable mobility. With production starting in August 2025 at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, the model aims to redefine the EV landscape both in India and global markets.

Key Takeaways

  • Production starts in August 2025 at Hansalpur, Gujarat.
  • Available in two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh.
  • Driving range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
  • Launch planned for December 10, 2025, through Nexa dealerships.
  • Price expected between ₹17 lakh and ₹22.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • 4-star Euro NCAP safety rating with advanced safety systems.

Design And Performance

The E Vitara carries a muscular and practical SUV design with dimensions of 4275 mm length, 1800 mm width, and 1640 mm height, along with a 2700 mm wheelbase. This compact yet roomy setup ensures a strong presence on the road and a comfortable cabin space. The model will feature front-wheel drive for India, while all-wheel-drive variants will be produced for export markets.

Under the hood, the E Vitara comes with two BYD-sourced LFP blade-cell battery packs — a 49 kWh version delivering 143 PS and 189 Nm, and a 61 kWh unit producing 174 PS with a range of over 500 km. Both come paired with single-speed automatic transmissions and regenerative braking for energy efficiency. The SUV supports fast DC charging, reaching 80% capacity in just 50 minutes.

Safety And Interior Features

Maruti Suzuki has emphasized safety, with the E Vitara earning a 4-star Euro NCAP rating. The vehicle includes seven airbags, electronic stability control, lane-keeping assist, collision mitigation, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Inside, the SUV offers a modern cabin experience with dual 10-inch floating displays for infotainment and driver information. The Infinity by Harman 10-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos ensures an immersive audio experience. Comfort features include multi-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable seats, and sliding and reclining rear seats. A 40:20:40 split-folding rear seat allows flexible storage for longer trips.

Market Launch And Outlook

The E Vitara will officially launch in India on December 10, 2025, with a price range between ₹17 lakh and ₹22.5 lakh. The base model will get the smaller battery, while the premium variants will feature the higher-capacity version. It will compete with models like the Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.

Despite initial production challenges due to rare earth material shortages that reduced output from 26,500 to 8,200 units between April and September 2025, Maruti plans to scale production to over 58,000 units by March 2026.

The model has gained massive traction on social media, praised for its range, design, and sustainable appeal. It will be exported to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, and France, under the “Make in India” initiative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated both the E Vitara and the new lithium battery facility, showcasing India’s growing role in global EV manufacturing.

The Maruti Suzuki E Vitara combines performance, innovation, and safety at a competitive price point, establishing itself as a strong contender in India’s electric SUV segment. It reflects Maruti’s evolution in the EV space and highlights India’s expanding capabilities in green mobility and automotive innovation.
